Yoke Vent

Purpose :

to maintain atmospheric pressure in the soil, waste and vent stacks.


Definition:

"Yoke vent means a vent pipe that is connected at its lower end to a soil or waste stack and its upper end to a vent stack or a branch vent that is connected to a vent stack."

Location:

Yoke vent is required in buildings 12 storeys and higher. Buildings can be of any type: office, institutional, hospitals, apartments.

Connection :

7.5.3.3.(2) "Yoke vent shall be connected to the soil or waste stack by means of a drainage fitting at or immediately below the lowest soil or waste pipe from the lowest storey of the section described in Sentence (1)".

Termination:

The upper end of a yoke vent must connect to a vent stack at least 1000 mm above the lowest or fifth floor of the section.

Yoke vent is not required "to be installed where the soil or waste or waste stack is interconnected to the vent stack at each storey by means of a fixture or a group of vented fixtures installed in accordance with Subsection 7.5.2."


Yoke vent should not be connected on the floor with no plumbing installed on it

- no visible indicators of a blockage.
