Solder

If the metal is properly cleaned and fluxed, capillary action should draw all the solder needed for the joint.

Solder is divided into two groups: soft and hard solders.

Soft solders are alloys of metals with melting point of less than 1000oF. Generally, the metals alloyed to manufacture soft solder include lead, tin, antimony, silver and copper.

Hard solders have melting point over 1000oF. The main component of hard solders is silver. Silver-soldering is used to join dissimilar metals, such as copper to iron, brass to steel.

7.2.9.2.(3) Solders and flux having a lead content in excess of 0.2 per cent shell not be used in a portable water system.
